Unique training and accreditation
MEDSAC trains nurses and doctors working in sexual assault assessment and treatment throughout New Zealand. The clinicians trained by MEDSAC are the primary providers of forensic and medical sexual assault care.
Our courses attract applicants from throughout Australasia. To apply for a place in the next intake, please complete the applicable Expression of Interest.
The following courses are provided once a year:

Puawaitahi, Starship Hospital and MEDSAC Paediatric Training Course on the Medical Assessment of Sexually Abused Children and Adolescents | A comprehensive multi-disciplinary course for clinicians wanting to gain competence, or to have an update, in the medical assessment of children and young people affected by sexual abuse/assault. | Auckland | ||||
Medical/Forensic Management of Adult Sexual Assault | | A course for clinicians to learn the skills of medical examinations for adults affected by sexual assault/abuse for the purposes of working under the Sexual Abuse Assessment and Treatment Service (SAATS) Contract. | Auckland |

The Ministry of Health also contracts MEDSAC to offer a free training programme on the Recognition and Response to Partner Abuse , which is useful for General Practice team members, Sexual Health Clinic staff, Obstetricians and Gynaecology professionals, and other health groups not covered by a different contract. If you want to discuss this or arrange this for your team, please contact us at the National Office.
MEDSAC regularly hosts International Speakers delivering lectures for all professionals involved in meeting the needs of people affected by sexual assault/abuse including social workers, psychologists, counsellors, doctors, and nurses.
